Michael Palin's takes on a challenge to travel from the North to the South Pole, by land and sea. The crossing is varied and frequently grueling, passing through Russia days before the abortive Gorbachev coup, then on through Turkey, Egypt, Sudan and South Africa, hopefully arriving in time to catch the only ship from Africa to Antarctica... With the intention of following the 30 degree east line of longitude, which would cover the most land. A last-minute diversion to Chile includes South America in the journey and using aircraft as little as possible, the whole trip lasted 5½ months. Follow Michael's fascinating journey in Pole to Pole.
