  • 5 stars for show, 2 stars for iTunes quality

    By tennantfan
I am aware that this is "archive" TV - however, I have coincidentally recently been witness to the pilot show (the first two episodes here, Awakening) from a non-legit source, and in spite of having PAID for this version on the strength of that, the quality of these episodes is absolutely dire compared to that "other" version. The price for the entire show is also incredibly prohibitive. I wouldn't be registering this secondary complaint if quality was at least equivalent to what can be obtained from alternative sources... but can we seriously be expected to willingly choose to sacrifice *quality* simply to know that we didn't buck the system? When are the TV and movies companies going to get this? I am, after all, one of those people who expressly *wishes* to (and is able to) pay for licensed versions of TV shows and movies, and yet issues like this continue to prevail. Some parts of the pilot story were so dark that as a viewer, I could not discern what was going on (even with the lights off!). Whichever side of the iTunes equation is responsible for this situation needs to sorely reassess their approach to production of these purchases. So, to recap: great classic 70s show, as far as I got with it (even in spite of the technical limitations) - terrible service from iTunes.

This is classic sci-fi which I loved watching as a kid, and I would love to buy it on iTunes as I want to move to a complete online digital library, but there is no season 2, looks like iTunes forgot about the second season seems... and I can't purchase half a show sorry!! Sort it out please and then you can have my money even better upload the HD content (I noticed another company had both seasons on blu-ray) and I will gladly pay more 😉
  • Don't download until you hear a better quality version has been put on iTunes.

I am sooo torn by this download... :-( Ok, so, awesome Buck Rogers in the 25th Century! Pure nostalgic gem! I was a child of the late 70s, early 80s... A time when there was just 3 tv channels in the uk... The only satellite dish I or any of my friends were aware of was on top of their Millennium Falcon toys.... Mobile phones were science fiction and a 'text' was something you studied at school... And in this almost alien and distant time on one of its 3 channels was the awesome adventures of Buck Rogers! There was very little else like it & the family (yep, the whole family...) all gathered in the living room to switch on the tv and join in Buck's adventures! So you see, I had huge expectations of seeing Buck Rogers once more! And with the wonders of today's technology I thought they would go back to the original master recordings of this series and polish up this gem! Seriously now & I know I've waffled a bit here, but down to my point... Buck Rogers in my view will always be a 5 star series. I read the other reviews of this series and took them into consideration before downloading. Some said the picture quality was not good and in areas very dark and difficult to see. When I saw what they meant I was appalled and quite angry. The quality is very grainy and no amount of fiddling with the brightness on my screen lightens any detail. It's like watching an old fifth generation Vhs video recording!!!! Yes, this is now a 30 plus year old program, but seriously! The tech is out there to sort this all out. Why hasn't it been used? So, yes, you'll see the Buck Rogers you remember. No, you won't see the picture quality you remember. 5 Stars for nostalgia. Zero for the quality of this download.

This is cult tv at its best. In between the Star Wars movies we had Buck Rogers in the 25 th century, season 1 is one of the funniest and most exciting tv shows of my childhood. The lovely Erin Gray remains my first crush. Love this show and so happy to watch it all over again.
